Marcus and Nicola were married on 18th April 2004 in Thailand
In summary, we had a traditional christian exchange of vows, a Buddhist wedding (the legal one) and a water blessing by family and friends. All this before 12pm. The reception was from 1-4pm. We were having a massage on the beach by 5pm.
Why the non-traditional approach? We couldn’t find a Christian priest who would marry us. We tried three denominations. All refused to marry us unless we could produce references rom our local church that we had been attending church every year for ten years. The Buddhists would do it, but only before lunch. Lunch is their only meal of the day. Thus, we had to shuffle a few things around. An unconventional approach, but a warm loving day full of family, friends and love. We were extremely fortunate and grateful that 35 members of family and friends decided to join us for the wedding day. Most of them stayed for a week or two. Our honeymoon was spend with family and friends.
A baby elephant was a feature of our stay. He visited the hotel twice a day and we saw him nearly every day for three weeks. The elephant also led the grooms procession across the hotel grounds. I instructed the hotel to take the “Marcus loves Nicola” sign off the elephant, but they forgot. Nicola did get to walk down the aisle like all brides should.
